Hydraulic Engineer (Entry-level)

MI Engineering is a small professional service firm (SPSF) located in Raleigh, NC specializing in transportation / civil / structural engineering. Our clients include NCDOT, a number of North Carolina municipalities, and various local contractors and consultants. We currently have an opening for an Entry Level Engineer specializing in Hydraulics / Stormwater / Drainage in the Transportation field. Typical job duties include but are not limited to: • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for roadway and bridge projects in North Carolina. • Perform drainage and stormwater computations, design drainage systems, conduct field surveys. • Perform calculations to determine bridge and culvert sizes for stream crossings at new and existing locations, and develop hydraulic study reports. • Create drainage and erosion control plans through use of Microstation and Geopak drainage. Required qualifications are as follows: • BS in Civil Engineering (hydraulics, hydrology, roadway, or site design classes preferred) – Graduation in May or December 2021 • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a CADD software • EI required (or passing FE exam prior to graduation) • Strong communication skills • Self-motivated • Desire to work in a collaborative, team-based environment • Ability to travel within NC with occasional overnight trips Preferred qualifications are as follows: • Computer aided drafting with Microstation • Familiarity with hydraulic design software (Geopak Drainage, HY-8, HEC-RAS) MI Engineering is willing to train the right individual. We currently have an opening for an Engineer specializing in Hydraulics / Stormwater / Drainage in the Transportation field. Typical job duties include but are not limited to: • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for roadway bridges and culverts using HEC-RAS modeling to satisfy MOA, LOMR, and CLOMR requirements. • Perform drainage and stormwater computations, design drainage systems, conduct field surveys. • Create drainage and erosion control plans through use of Microstation and Geopak drainage. • Prepare Permit drawings. Required qualifications are as follows: • BS in Civil Engineering • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a CADD software • EI required (PE Preferred) • 2-5 years’ experience in roadway hydraulics design • Computer aided drafting with Microstation • Familiarity with hydraulic design software (Geopak Drainage, HY-8, HEC-RAS) • Understanding of NCDOT guidelines / procedures / plan preparation / construction practices • Strong communication skills • Self-motivated • Desire to work in a collaborative, team-based environment • Ability to travel within NC with occasional overnight trips This position is available now as full-time position.
